Aetiology :
- Repeated attack of acute tonsillitis
- Inadequate treatment
- Repeated and persistence of infection in the nose and paranasal sinuses
Clinical features :
Symptoms :
- Recurrent sore throat
- Difficulty in swallowing
- Bad smell( Halitosis)
- Hawking
Signs : Four cardinal signs
- Tonsils – hypertrophied or atrophied.
- Congested anterior pillars.
- Inspissated pus will come out from tonsils on giving pressure by tongue depressor.
Both the jugulo-digastric lymph nodes are enlarged and tender
Diagnosis :
- From history
- From Signs
Investigations :
For treatment purpose and for general anaesthesia. Not for
diagnosis.
Treatment :
Tonsillectomy under general anaesthesia.
